You're crushing assignments left and right, but one question remains: What exactly are professors grading me on?
Enter the rubric ā the secret weapon for scoring points, hitting criteria, and avoiding the dreaded "almost but not quite."
Hereās how to find your rubrics and grades like a Canvas ninja:
š Step 1: Check Your Grades (and Feedback)
-
Log into Canvas: https://synchronic.uat.edu
-
Click on the course you want to check
-
In the left-hand menu, click Grades
Here you'll see:
-
All your assignments
-
Your grades
-
Icons that link to feedback and rubrics
š” Look for a little āspeech bubbleā icon next to the scoreāthat means there's feedback or a rubric waiting for you!
š§± Step 2: View the Rubric for a Specific Assignment
Rubrics break down how each part of your assignment will be gradedākind of like the grading matrix in your professorās brain (but way less mysterious).
To find it:
-
Go to your course
-
Click Assignments
-
Select the assignment you want to check
-
Scroll down to the bottom of the page
šÆ If your instructor attached a rubric, you'll see it displayed right there with point breakdowns and descriptions.
⨠Pro Tip: You can even preview rubrics before submitting your work to see what your instructor is looking for. It's like reading the cheat codes for an A.
š Whatās in a Rubric?
Rubrics are usually broken into:
-
Criteria (what you're being graded on)
-
Point ranges (how well you did)
-
Descriptions (what counts as excellent, okay, or āletās not talk about itā)
Reading the rubric = knowing how to win.
š± Canāt Find a Rubric?
-
Double-check the Grades or Assignment page
-
Ask your professorāthey love it when you show you care
-
If Canvas is acting up, email itrep@uat.edu
Understanding rubrics = understanding the roadmap to higher grades. Check them early, use them as a checklist, and you'll never have to wonder, āWhy did I get a B?ā again.
Now go forth and rubric responsibly. š§ āØ
